Gua Cha - Lembah Nenggiri, Gua Musang, Kelantan

Gua Cha is located in Ulu Kelantan, along the Nenggiri River Basin, and is one of Malaysia’s most important archaeological sites. Research at the cave began in the 1930s with early reports by H. D. Noone, followed by studies by G. de G. Sieveking in 1954 and excavations by Adi bin Haji Taha in 1979. The site has revealed Hoabinhian and Neolithic layers, showing human settlement over 10,000 years ago, including burials, stone tools, pottery, animal bones and food remain.

Gua Cha provides a clear picture of the transition of prehistoric communities from hunter-gatherers to a more complex lifestyle, with the use of pottery and burial rituals. The site continues to be a focus for research and conservation to ensure this cultural heritage is protected from development and environmental pressures, contributing to our understanding of early human history in Peninsular Malaysia.
