The building was constructed with the efforts of a millionaire Loke Yew Kuala Lumpur which has contributed $ 50,000 Dollar British to build this building in 1910. The son of Loke Yew, Alan Loke also contributed $ 20,000 Dollar British. Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall was completed in 1923 by Chong Yoke Choy elected as the first president, while his secretary is held by ChooPeng Kai.

The purpose of this building was erected as a central virtue of the Chinese in Malaysia, especially in the economic and cultural sectors. Interwoven among the Hainanese, Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew that many inhabit Kuala Lumpur at the time when the Chinese can consolidate it as a minority in Malaya.

This building has made history as the country has become the most important meeting place of the most important and historic inter-party representing the Malays UMNO and MCA party representing the Chinese to discuss the formation of the Alliance in 1952, which is the country's largest party up to spearhead the country's independence.

This building is now known as the Chinese Assembly Hall in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. It was declared as a National Heritage Building in 2007. The National Heritage Department has allocated a total of RM500,000.00 for conservation work in this building in 2008.
