Research and archaeological excavations at a new site in Sungai Batu, Lembah Bujang started in February 2009. The site was discovered by the Centre for Global Archaeological Research, Universiti Sains Malaysia in Sungai Batu 1, 2007. The site is located at position coordinates longitude 050 41 '73.3 "North and latitude 1000 27 '19.7 "East, at a height of 18 m above sea level. This position is taken from the reading of GPS (Global Positioning System) on-site survey datum point.

The site is located approximately 10 km from Sungai Petani and 80 km from Alor Setar, located in the area of ​​oil palm plantations near the new road-Semeling Merbok.

This new site reveals evidence brick structure on its surface as a result of the development of oil palm agriculture. Located on the banks of the Rock River and its tributaries, which may be a structure that has to do with the river.

This location has its own unique system, which has tributaries that show as if each separate ridges become like islands. Thereby, the Sungai Batu location is very strategic for trade and defense activities.

The new site is also still in the Bujang Valley civilization sphere of influence is likely to have an association with other sites such as Sungai Batu Pahat, Kampung Pengkalan Bujang, Kampung Bendang in and close the Temple 71.
